Whether you are a Bride, Mother of the Bride / Groom, or simply in need of a beautifully tailored garment, the custom-made / bespoke process is pretty much the same.

Consultation

The initial consultation involves a discussion around the garment, if it’s a wedding the location and themes for the big day. You may have an idea of styles and I will also provide design and style suggestions which will flatter your figure, encompass your style and suit the setting. We will discuss fabrics, and look at swatches / samples, perhaps ordering further samples to ensure we get the right look and feel for your design. A second consultation may be required to finalise fabrics and design.

Fittings

Fittings will be required throughout the manufacture process. It may be stating the obvious but occasionally customers feel that the fitting is irrelevant. The number of fittings required will depend on the complexity of the design and fabric. The average is 3 to 5 fittings but occasionally more will be required.

Toile

Once a design has been agreed, a toile will be produced which will fit your measurements. This is a mock-up of the garment in calico or muslin. The toile ensures a perfect proportion and fit. Depending on the complexity of the design, and whether you are in the midst of toning up, a second toile may be produced. Only when you are happy with the design will the manufacture commence.

Timing

Whilst the average made to measure garment takes between 6 to 8 weeks from design concept to manufacture, certain designs can take longer. It’s therefore best to make contact as soon as possible as it can be a time-consuming process, especially when sourcing unusual fabrics, applying embellishments and special finishing touches. Remember, this isn’t fast fashion, a tailored suit can take 40 hours from design to completion.

Why should I go bespoke?

Essentially you can create your own outfit and style. You’ve seen three design ideas but like a bit of each. If it’s technically possible to put them together, I can make it happen. Or perhaps you’d like sleeves in the dress. Again, that’s not a problem (I’ve even put them in a backless dress – although please don’t ask!). Perhaps you need pockets, again this can mostly be accommodated.
Likewise, you can select the colours and fabric of your choice using cloth sourced within the British Isles and beyond. My supply source is wide and varied including Linton Tweed, Huddersfield Cloth, Yorkshire Tweed from Marton Mills and Harris Tweed and a wide variety of silk and lace suppliers. Finally, your garment has been individually hand cut and made to measure by me in Harrogate so nobody is going to turn up in the same outfit.
