The one where I decided to reline my jacket

Which is what this particular project would have been entitled, if it were an episode of Friends.
It’s a year or so ago since I undertook the task but feel I need to share as both a success story and a cautionary tale. As you know I love working with heritage fabrics and none more heritage than Harris Tweed. This particular tweed was gifted by my Mother… for Christmas, yup she bought me 2 metres of Harris Tweed as a Christmas gift?! After an initial open-mouthed moment, I thought what a lucky gal am I and duly made it up, going style safe with a blazer. Thinking a timeless fabric needs a classic style which should last a lifetime, which is more than can be said of the lining!
A rare free day in the studio, saw me embarking on a relining project. I decided to opt for a floral satin (originally block red). Three hours max, thought I. Then I continued thinking, whilst relining, why not make an additional inside the lining phone pocket; and whilst making an additional phone pocket, why not put some flaps on the pockets in a contrast fabric; whilst doing that why not open the back seam and insert a contrast flap; whilst doing that why not replace the undercollar with a contrast, and why not add a patch pocket, and finally why not change the buttons..?? Thirteen working hours, across three days later and my "quick" remodel was complete.
A success because not only do I love it, but I’ve worn my revamped jacket more in the last 12 months than the previous 10 years, but a cautionary tale of how a simple project can easily escalate.
